The Fall

I catch my ankles

on the divide between

light and dark

feel them crack

under the pressure of

reality and fiction

as I tumble slowly backward

through a lifetime of

silent words and deafening glares

caught somewhere between

my past and my dreams

struggling to grab hold

of a breath of sanity

to launch my forward

instead of falling-

They say one must fall

to know how to rise-

but how do you climb

when all of your bones are

shattered by the fall?
